Fine Policy
The library collects fines for materials that are returned late to the library. The charges are as follows: 20 cents per day per book, $2.00 per day per video or DVD, $10.00 per day for museum passes. The maximum fine limit for books is $10.00, and the maximum fine limit for DVDs is $12.00. If you lose an item you borrowed from the library, you will be asked to pay for the cost to replace it and you will be issued a receipt upon payment. If you find the item after already paying for it, you can bring the item and the receipt to the library and you will receive a refund for the cost of the book, minus the late fee for the item. Late fees accrued from borrowing materials belonging to another library in Connecticut may be paid at the Howard Whittemore Memorial Library.
Patrons may not use the library computers if they have more than $1.99 in fines on their account, and they may not check out materials if they have more than $5.00 on their account. Patrons cannot renew expired cards or get a card at the Howard Whittemore until all fines have been paid on their account.
