Anti-Heroes TV Discussion Club

posted May 15, 2015, 7:24 AM by Whittemore Technology

Join us on Wednesday, May 20 for our TV discussion club which meets monthly on Wednesdays. We’ve entered a golden era of dramatic storytelling on the “small screen” in which the line between literature and TV has blurred. One of the key elements of critically-acclaimed shows in the past 10-15 years has been main characters with serious flaws in their character or who make questionable moral choices, and yet we continue to find them compelling and perhaps even sympathetic. The new band of “Anti-Heroes” such as Mad Men’s Don Draper, Breaking Bad’s Walter White, or Dexter Morgan (Dexter) also confront realistic explorations of social issues, deeper development of plot and character motivation, and have storylines that don’t always offer resolution or a traditional “third act”. Join Matt Yanarella and Kirk Morrison from the library staff as we meet and discuss anti-hero TV shows and suggestions for club viewing in the months to come. Come join a discussion club for the “rest of us”! Refreshments will be served. Call Whittemore Library for more information- 729-4591.
